TR4A-6 new build uprated rear hub assembly with higher load capacity bearings than standard. These hub units are the ideal choice if a rear hub needs replacement especially as original parts become scarce rendering it difficult to find satisfactory parts to rebuild original units.

Triumphs original rear hub unit is a reliable design, with many many thousands built and in service in a variety of climates and conditions all over the world. However, with many of these units now over 50 years old they can suffer from the following problems: -

• A specialist puller is needed to disassemble, something few workshops have resulting in component damage when alternative methods of disassembly are employed.
• Failures of the original units is almost always due to the unit having been rebuilt with unserviceable parts.
• An original unit that has not been rebuilt must be nearing the end of its useful life.
• They are difficult to rebuild and maintain the correct bearing end float.
• Many have flanges that are too thin as they have been skimmed.
•The Yoke UJ internal diameters can become oversize due to repeated disassembly and reassembly.

THE REDESIGNED REAR HUB UNIT WE SELL UNDER THIS PART NUMBER 137496-1 IS MADE FROM NEW TOP QUALITY COMPONENTS, SOLVES THE PROBLEMS OUTLINED ABOVE AND PROVIDES THE FOLLOWING UPGRADES
• Splined shaft and flange construction does not need special tools to separate
• Bearings are solidly spaced using shim washers so do not go out of adjustment
• Wear compensation is easily accomplished with DIY tools.
• Shaft thread diameter increased by 85% for extra security
• Flange design has increased diameters and radii to avoid cracking and failure.
• Bearing size is increased and the bearing design has been validated by Timken UK.
• Only Top quality materials, bearings and seals are used.

This hub is supplied with studs intended to accept steel or aluminium wheels. If wire wheels are to be fitted we recommend fitting spacer 217602S which we manufacture to be exactly the correct thickness so that when fitted with a wire wheel adaptor, the correct amount of thread protrudes to accommodate a wire wheel adaptor securing nut. We believe this method of accommodating wire wheels is preferable to cutting the studs down as a level of flexibility is maintained allowing for other wheels to be fitted in the future. If however these hubs are required with wire wheel length studs, we can do this to special order.

Whilst inspecting the hubs have a good look a the drive shafts too. If there is any play, you should consider replacing them. Order 2 x RTR1371.

Fitting Tip

Use an old nut to ensure the studs in the trailing arms will take the 16 lbft torque with the hub attached to the trailing arm but whilst it is disconnected from the drive

shaft. If any studs start to pull, use a Helicoil kit RTR5046 to rectify any threads that are suspect.

If a further uprate is required for serious race or rally use, choose hub unit RTR1343. See below
