COST ADD SKIVED LEATHER PIPING one seat
CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE
Cost to skive leather so that it is suitable for use as piping and make up into piping. Normally leather seats have vinyl piping but if leather piping is specified, to match the seat, this is the cost to prepare the leather and make up the piping in readiness for building into the seat. The cost is per seat.
Piping is manufactured by stitching a long thin piece of vinyl or leather around a small plastic tube to create piping in a 'lollipop' shape. The leather used for trimming the body of the seats is much too thick to produce a suitable size of piping. If the leather is used as is, the resulting piping is way too bulbous and looks frankly ugly. The solution is to reduce the thickness of the leather with special tools or by machine to produce very thin leather that when sewn around the inner plastic tube will look elegant. This process called skiving, is time consuming which is why this additional cost needs to be applied if leather piping is requested.
Please bear in mind that this cost applies when the leather being used for the seats is to be used for piping. If an altogether different colour of leather is requested for piping, this will be quoted for separately and will depend on minimum ordering quantity available for the chosen colour of leather.
